The best part about this Honey Garlic Chicken? It’s so easy to make and you’ll have all the ingredients in your kitchen pantry/kitchen tap or fridge already.

The best thing about this sauce is that it only takes a few ingredients to make. The flavors of sweet and salty with the hint of garlic will have you licking your fingers after every juicy bite!
How to make Honey Garlic Chicken Breast:
Fried Chicken
- Split chicken breast in half – so 2 breasts make 4 pieces.
- Add white pepper, egg, salt, and flour. Mix evenly.
- Marinate for 30 minutes.
- Dust chicken with flour (gives the chicken a slight crust so the sauce clings to it better!)
- Add oil.
- Deep-fry the chicken.
Honey Garlic Chicken Breast
- Add 3 tbsp butter or oil. Add the chopped garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant.
- Combine the honey, water, vinegar, and soy sauce. Cook until the sauce reduces down and thickens slightly.
- Turn chicken to coat in sauce.
- Remove from the stove immediately. Place chicken on plates and drizzle over the remaining sauce.
Lastly, the rest of the honey garlic sauce goes over the chicken breast.
Can replace the chicken breast with chicken thighs?
Yes, you can do this. Chicken breasts are healthy and don’t have to deal with troublesome bones, but Chicken thighs are a little more tender and stand up well to cooking over high heat without drying out, you can replace them with chicken thighs if you prefer.
Can make this gluten-free?
Yes, replace the soy sauce with tamari and use gluten-free chicken stock. Ensure your brand of rice vinegar is gluten-free too.
Can make ahead or save leftovers and reheat?
Yes, although the chicken won’t be quite as tender when reheated (it’ll still taste great though). Cook, quickly cool, and cover the chicken, then refrigerate. Reheat in the oven at 180C/350f on a baking tray. Cover the chicken with foil before placing it in the oven to help prevent it from drying out. Cook for 12-15 minutes until piping hot throughout.
Swaps:
- If you don’t have rice vinegar, you can swap for apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar plus ¼ tsp of sugar.
- If you don’t have light soy sauce, you can swap for ¾ tbsp of dark soy sauce.
- If you don’t have honey, you can swap it for 1 tbsp of sugar.
- The vegetable oil can be swapped for any neutral-tasting oil that can be cooked at high temperatures (such as rapeseed, sunflower, and ghee).
What to serve with Honey Garlic Chicken Breast
There’s enough sauce to drizzle over veggies and soak into rice or whatever you serve it with. This sauce is perfect for any dish that needs a little something extra. It has soy sauce, honey, and garlic, it’ll go well with your fried rice as much as macaroni salad or even pasta carbonara.

Ingredients
- INGREDIENTS FOR MARINATED CHICKEN BREAST:
500g Chicken Breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
½ teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon White Pepper
1 Egg
2 tablespoon Flour
- INGREDIENTS FOR FRIED CHICKEN BREAST:
1 cup of Flour
2 tablespoon Cornflour
¼ teaspoon White Pepper
2 tablespoon Bread Crumbs
Oil
- INGREDIENTS FOR HONEY GARLIC SAUCE:
6 cloves Garlic, minced
3 tablespoon butter (or 2 tbsp Olive Oil)
1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar (or other clear Vinegar)
1 tablespoon Sweet Soy Sauce, light
1 tablespoon Honey ( or 1½ tsp sugar)
1 tablespoon Sugar
100ml Water
1 tablespoon Cornflour + 3 tablespoons Water
Directions
- MARINATED CHICKEN BREAST:
- Cut the chicken breast in half horizontally to create 4 steaks in total.
- Marined the chicken breast with egg, salt, flour, and white pepper for 30 minutes.
- FRIED CHICKEN BREAST:
- In a food container, add flour, cornflour, white pepper, and bread crumbs. Mix evenly.
- Put the chicken breast in the food container, cover the lid and shake it left and right so that the chicken breast inside is evenly covered with flour. Then, shake off excess flour.
- Put oil in the wok, wait for the oil to heat up, and put in the chicken breast. Fry the surface until golden brown and crispy. Set aside.
- HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN BREAST:
- In a wok, add butter or vegetable oil. Turn the heat down to low heat until the butter is completely dissolved. Turn the heat up to high, add the chopped garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant. Turn the heat down to medium so the garlic doesn’t burn, then make the sauce.
- To make the sauce, combine the honey, water, vinegar, and soy sauce. Stir well. Pour the sauce into the wok, increase heat to medium-high and continue to cook until the sauce is reduced and thickens slightly (about 3-4 minutes) or you can pour some cornflour water stir to straight and thicken.
- Put the chicken breast in a wok and turn the chicken to coat in sauce. If the sauce gets too thick, add a touch of water and stir.
- Make sure that each piece of chicken is dipped with sauce then place the chicken on plates and drizzle over the remaining sauce.
Notes
- If you want the sauce more thicken, pour the cornstarch water and stir until thick before putting in the chicken. Trust me, it tastes even better.
